Siurana is one of the most famous sport climbing destinations in the world for a reason. For decades it's been the focus of the development of the hardest climbs in the world, the last one being Sleeping Lion 9b+. Saying that, the easier climbs are just as good, which is why people from all around the world keep coming back again and again.
The orange and grey rock is just made for climbing- it is naturally sustained and technical, with overhangs, slabs, corners and vertical crimpy routes. It is the perfect place to work on your technique as it requires precise footwork and body positioning.
Because of the variety of orientations you can climb at any time of the year, Autumn and Spring being the best times as the temperature is generally perfect, you can mostly climb both in the sun and shade. The rock dries incredibly fast, if it rains in the morning the rock will be climbable in the afternoon.
One of the interesting aspects of Siurana is that its not just Siurana. It is also Margalef, another world famous destination only 40 minutes drive away. The climbing is completely different- athletic pockets in many ways similar to indoor climbing. Just with the two areas you have a lifetime of climbing, but if you have been to Catalonia before, you will know that within 2 hours drive there is a truly mindblowing amount of routes and an even bigger amount of unclimbed rock. A true climbing paradise.
Our coaching sessions are the foundations of the whole experience. They will be run by Marten, the most renowned, and frankly the best, climbing guide in the area. He not only has climbed up to 8b+, bolted many of the routes in Siurana and knows the place inside out. More importantly he brings more than a decade of experience teaching climbing with a real attention to detail when it comes to personalizing coaching to each individual climber. The idea is that these days on the rock are multidimensional. The first day is about building a strong foundation. We'll optimise ropework, anchor building and dismanteling, practice advanced belaying and just generally clear up any doubts you might have. This also gives Marten the chance to see your climbing and design an individual coaching plan for the following days. The next 3 days focus to individualised coaching on the rock, covering a wide variety of aspects of climbing: route planning, onsight climbing, refining footwork and body positioning, resting on the wall and overall strategy. You'll receive practical tips that you can apply immediatly. You'll walk away with techniques that you will stay with you for the rest of your climbing career, which will make you a more competent, well-rounded climber.
At Olive Climbing Camp, we believe the mental side of climbing is both fascinating and often completely overlooked. Let’s be honest, climbing wouldn’t be nearly as rewarding without its mental challenges. Everyone experiences fear, anxiety before and after a climb and has had their mind stop them from making a move. But equally, everyone knows the deep satisfaction that comes from overcoming those barriers. We firmly believe that the mental part of climbing is a skill, and therefore trainable. It is something that with the right tools and focused practice everyone can improve. This conscious approach to the psychological aspect of the sport is the key to unlock true improvement, breaking out of plateaus and reaching those levels of difficulty that we thought were only for the elite. And let’s not forget: it also makes climbing more fun. The less fear and anxiety we carry, the more we enjoy the experience. At the end of the day, the most successful climber is the one having the most fun. To bring this to life, we’ve partnered with Sol Giadorou, one of the world’s leading climbing psychologists. On the one hand, she is a fully qualified psychologist with a degree from the University of Mendoza, in Argentina, and then re-certefied again in Spain. She also has a Diploma in Cognitive Clinical Psychology, a Masters in Clinical Neuropsychology and another Masters in Sport Psychology. In other words, a true professional in the field. On the other hand, she is the definition of hardcore. Sponsored by Patagonia, she has climbed all around the world at an elite level of difficulty and commitment. Not everyone has the mental capability to free climb hard multiday test pieces in Patagonia. However, you will notice straight away on this workshop that she did not achieve all this by blocking fears and ignoring uncomfortable emotions but by appliying scientific techniques that open up the mind to be able to sit with the discomfort and regulate itself. These two days are highly individualised. While many climbers share common struggles (fear of falling, fear of failure), the approach is always tailored to you. In order to maximize this aspect of the workshop, in the weeks before the course you will have an online 30 minute one to one session with Sol, where she will get to know you, your aspirations, your fears and expectations so she can be as efective as possible when you arrive. During the camp, you’ll spend two days on the rock with her, learning:
Let's be realistic, the mind is a complicated place and two days is not enough to transform your psychology completely. Anyone selling fast fixes is not being honest. This is why you will leave the workshop with an actionable plan for you to apply in the coming months, once you get home. If you want even more depth, you can then start a private counseling process with Sol. She offers personalised online therapy sessions, you can speak to her after the course for more details.
We LOVE climbing trips. You could almost say that they are the essence of the climbing lifestyle. If you think about it, before you go, the focus is on the performance. But when you return home, what stays with you is something much deeper. It's the pleasure of living all day outside, in beautiful landscapes with like- minded people. At the Olive Climbing Camp we aim to maximize the pleasure of this part of the trip:
At the Olive climbing camp we believe that food is both fundamental to athletic performance and one of the great pleasures of life. The camp is situated in one of the most fertile areas in the world, the archetypal mediterranean land, and we will take full advantage of that. In the camp we will serve delicious homecooked meals, with ingredients that are, as much as possible, locally sourced, km0 and Organic (both certified and just natural agriculture). It's all cooked for the camp, so we can adapt meals to suit your dietary needs. We will serve a buffet breakfast, lunch and snacks to take to the crag and then a sit down meal in the evening. Beer and wine are also included. Even though it's not a good idea to climb on a hangover, a beer or two after a day of pushing yourself on the rock is not a crime. You are on holiday in Spain, after all!

The Camp's liability, where not excluded by law, shall in all circumstances be limited to the total fees paid by the Participant for the programme.
